AMC Frequently Asked Questions
The time it takes will vary depending on the completeness of the application as well as the response time if deficiencies are found. Fully complete applications with no deficiencies take approximately 2-3 weeks to process.

The NC Appraisal Board requires an AMC to maintain an active surety bond in the amount of $25,000 during the registration period, which expires annually on June 30. Registrants must provide the Board with proof of bond coverage through the next registration period via a continuation certificate, bond rider, or the bond form prior to being eligible for renewal.
No, the NC Appraisal Board will not need a list of the appraisers on the panel.
The annual renewal fee is $2,000. An AMC that qualifies for the National Registry will also pay the National Registry fee of $25 per appraiser on the company’s panel who performed an appraisal in connection with a covered transaction in North Carolina during the previous calendar year. To qualify for the National Registry, the company must have at least 16 appraisers licensed or certified in North Carolina or at least 25 appraisers licensed or certified on their panel in two or more states during the prior calendar year.
Your registration will expire on June 30 each year and will need to be renewed annually. You can renew online or mail in a check with the Renewal Application.
Ten business days prior to the change, complete the Designation of Compliance Manager application available on our website under forms. Be sure to include the new compliance manager’s background check with the application.
Ten business days prior to the change of ownership that results in an individual or business entity directly or indirectly owning more than 10% of the company, but where there is no change in the tax ID, complete the Change of Ownership application available on our website under forms. Be sure to include the new owner’s background check with the application. If a change in ownership results in a new Tax ID number of the company, a new registration application is required.

In addition to updating your address, you should provide a bond rider showing the new address and may need to update the NC Secretary of State’s business registration.

The NC Appraisal Board requires notification within 10 days of closure, if not before, by completing the Closing Notification form available on our website under forms. The company is required to maintain a bond for two years after the date of closure.
Yes, even though your company has closed, you will need to keep a surety bond in your company’s name for two (2) years after the date it has closed.
Appraisal management companies shall notify the Board in writing of each change of name, trade name, federal identification number, organizational status, ownership structure, compliance manager, surety bond, registered agent, business address, telephone number, or email address within 10 business days of said change.
